Travis Taylors Bio
_Hi! My name is Travis Taylor. I live in Gunnedah NSW, which is 72 km’s west of Tamworth. I was born 27th October in 1992
My Mother, Vicki, introduced me to line dancing at the age of 2 with Doris Holledge of Gunnedah Bootscooters in mid 90’s. I have not looked back since!
My Dad, Col was a professional musician and DJ. He sang all around the North-West of NSW. My Mum is an enrolled nurse at Gunnedah Hospital & in Community Health.
I am very proud to be able to call Mark & Kate Simpkin of Southern Cross Line Dancers, Sydney, my second family. I have been teaching under Southern Cross since 2007. I am very blessed to have them in my life. I love coming to Sydney, attending classes teaching dances and meeting all the wonderful people. I also choreograph for and help train our competition team.

_From a very early age I spent a lot of time dancing in
front of the television to line dance videos by Mark as well as Cindy
Truelove, Terry Hogan, Simon Ward and Tracie Lee. Other influences
include Rachael McEnaney, Kate Simpkin, Chris Watson, Kelvin Dale, Justine Shuttleworth,
Colleen & Butch Satchell, Cathryn Proudfoot, Peter Fry, Michael Vera
Lobos, Noel Brady, Lu Olsen, Sandy Kerrigan and Wendy Hughes and many
more pioneers of Line Dance Australia. Actually meeting these people
years later was like meeting stars from Hollywood J I am now living my
dream.
I choreographed my first dance at the age of 9. My father was very supportive and a major influence to me. I would go to his gigs and just dance, making it up on the spot. There was always music in our house and anything with a beat would make my mind tick and feet jig. My father use to say to our friends and family that I could choreograph a dance to Marcel Marceau (at the time I didn’t know who Marcel Marceau was) he use to get a laugh out of that every time.

_In 2008 I completed my Yr10 School Certificate and my Father was diagnosed with Cancer.
I made the decision not to continue with my studies, and became my Fathers carer, so I could spend as much time with him as possible. This enabled my Mother to continue to work, and I maintained the house as well.
As painful & difficult as this time was, it was worth it. I treasure & value every moment I had with my Dad. He also taught me everything about being a DJ.

_There isn’t any genre of music that I don’t enjoy
listening to. My iPod consists of Pop, Country, Hip Hop, Techno &
Dance, Rock/Metal, Blues/Roots, Rockabilly & many more genres of
Music. I appreciate all eras of music, from Fred Astaire to Michael
Jackson to Adele. At the moment I am really enjoying Fleetwood Mac.
My first dance to go national across Australia was “Winner at a Loosing Game’’, which I choreographed with my mentor Mark Simpkin. It became one of the most taught dances across Australia, which was awesome. My other nation wide success “Pieces Don’t Fit” won 1st prize at the National Choreography Competition in Tamworth 2009.

_2009, was already a big year for me. Liz Collet on the
Gold Coast, asked me to fill in for her as she was going on holidays.
Knowing my Dad was really ill at the time, I did not want to leave his
side, but he saw this as a big opportunity for me and encouraged me to
go. On the 1st of July I flew to the Gold Coast. 9 short days later I
received the devastating news, my Father had lost his battle.
Whenever I would hear “Ave Maria” by Beyoncé it would bring back memories of the times Dad and I shared in his later days. My dance “Heaven on Earth’’ is my dedication to him.

_January 2010 at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, I
was awarded Choreographer of the Year by the line dance community of
Australia. I was very humbled and consider it my greatest accomplishment
to date at then 17 years of age!
Since then I have choreographed I Can’t Stand The Rain, Raw, Drop On By (with Wendy Hughes), Pitbull Samba & Dance In The Mirror (with Sandy Kerrigan), Edge Of Glory (with Alison Johnstone) and continue to work with many more choreographers national and international as it allows me to learn from them and become more skillful in what I love to do, which is choreograph.
I am also often invited to judge at various line dancing competitions across Australia for choreography & competition dancing. I have the unique distinction of being the youngest judge in Australia. Which I feel is another awesome achievement, and quiet cool. :)
Apart from music & dancing I enjoy being outdoors. Partying with my friends is high on my agenda. I enjoy the nightlife and listening to other DJ’s. I love the summer season for pool parties and BBQs :)

_Currently I am busy carrying on my Fathers entertainment
business with bookings for disco’s + karaoke nights. I often DJ for
Weddings, School Formals & Discos, Charities & Private Parties.
Line dancing is and will always be a huge part of my life. I am blessed to have the opportunity to meet so many people. I have made many lifetime friends over the last 10+ years… I intend to travel as much as I can to continue to share my passion for line dancing with as many people as possible.
Hope to see you on a dance floor sometime!
